Zetsonata Op.9 No.2

(Warning: The post you are about to read contains no in-depth descriptions.)

I have just recieved my new stage piano; a Yamaha P85. I'm very satisfied with it. The problem is that I don't know how to play it. Still, I wanted to shoot a picture were it looked like I mastered this instrument.

Setup

The flash attached to the umbrella was not used. The umbrella was only worked as a reflector to create some fill light on my head and hands.

Exposure settings
Main flash: SB-600, 1/4 power, 50mm zoom
Lens: Nikkor 35mm f/2D
Exposure: 1/250 @ f/8 ISO 200
Camera: Nikon D300

Post-processing
I wanted to make a BW picture, so I imported the RAW file to Photoshop and used the Black and white filter. Increased the contrast with levels. I also had to paint some of the kitchen details with black since the black background cloth wasn't big enough.

Result
Zetsonata Op.9 No.2

I love the end result.

The pose is great, and so is the lighting.

Very cool; neat use of the umbrella as a reflector.

Apparently, my comment didn't get submitted. Oops. :)

I would have never thought to have used the umbrella as a reflector before. That's pretty creative.

The light on the keyboard, particularly the keys, is that coming from the flash in front of you and bounced off the umbrella?

Also, do you plan on learning to play that keyboard, or did you buy it just for a prop? Hopefully my S90ES will be featured in a photo soon. :)

Thank for reading guys, and for your comments.

I forgot to say that the reflector idea appeared because the SB-600 attached to it misfired, and still sufficient fill was created. In times like this, nothing is better than saving power:)

The light on the keys is directly from the flash. Setting the zoom on the flash was important to control the light spread.

John, no, I'm actually planning to learn how to play the piano too:) I think the price I paid is a little too much for using it as a prop only. Do you play yourself? Your keyboard looks quite advanced so I guess you have some playing capabilities?:)

I play some, not that great. I was getting into fooling around with synthesizer functions on my computer and controlling it using a cheap keyboard, so I thought it would be easier to buy a full-blown synth. I also wanted a digital piano as well, so that's why I went with the S90ES instead of one of the Motif ES boards.

I'm mediocre at best. I can play a few songs decently enough to play in Church... What I wanted to do was use the synth voices when we had a piano player. Unfortunately, we lost her before I had the chance to do that.
